This is a fascinating article from Sierra Leone's online newspaper the Concord Times (via AllAfrica.com). Apparently, just a few months after women's cricket was introduced to the country, a female league is about to be established. Competitive league games will start in October, alongside the established men's league. The Sierra Leone Cricket Association started the women's team with just 8 players, but already has 45. And, as campaigns are underway to bring girl's cricket to schools, it is hoped that the sport will be well-supplied with future players. In a country that only recently emerged from civil war and where any human rights, including women's rights, were almost impossible to realize, it's amazing to see how far things have come - this is yet another expression of that progress.
